Simple Sheet was created by an independent software developer based in Japan. The project has been developed continuously since 2026, and it remains actively maintained.
The project started after repeatedly struggling to explain calculator results to friends during group trips and shared expenses. I found myself checking receipts multiple times and re-entering numbers into standard calculator apps just to prove how much everyone owed.
The goal was simple: Instead of showing only the final answer, show every calculation step so anyone can verify the result. Every calculation remains visible, editable, and shareable.
Before releasing Simple Sheet publicly, I tested it repeatedly with real situations such as restaurant bills, travel expenses, shopping discounts, and recipe calculations. Those everyday tests helped shape the current interface and features.
Most calculator apps only display the final answer. Traditional spreadsheets are powerful but often too complicated for quick, everyday calculations.
Simple Sheet fills the gap by combining the speed of a calculator with the transparency of a spreadsheet, allowing every calculation step to remain visible, editable, and shareable.
Many new features begin as problems encountered in daily life. If a calculation is difficult to explain or repeatedly recreated in spreadsheets, it often becomes a new Simple Sheet template.
